A small “leftover” property in West Asheville dissected by multiple easements called for a creative solution to address the strict site constraints while maximizing the available building area. Clean lines and simple forms help this small home fit into its surroundings effortlessly. The small footprint below accommodates a covered parking area and exterior storage in addition to the living area, dining, kitchen, and powder room. An eye to the surrounding context allowed for a vertical form, and a cantilevered floor system provides ample space for three generous bedrooms, two full baths, and a master suite roof deck above. Multiple operable glass doors invite the outdoors into the living spaces and plenty of windows throughout keep the home airy and bright. Alternative building materials and straightforward construction methods were used to bring this project in under a very tight budget while still retaining its integrity and authenticity.
