The owners of this residence relocated from Franklin (Tennessee) to Franklin (North Carolina) to build their new “forever” home in the mountains, with a desire to bring a distinctively “California modern” aesthetic to their new residence while still harmonizing with the surrounding Appalachian landscape.

The residence is organized around a central atrium space which includes an open living, kitchen, and dining area. A single-story wing contains the primary suite and bar, while guest suites, laundry, powder, an exercise room, and a two-car garage occupy the two-story wing.

The elevated site provided the opportunity to maximize views from the interior and provide ample natural light, while omitting the need for excessive shading devices. An expansive deck with connections to the entertaining space and the primary suite provides outdoor space to entertain and enjoy the mountain air.
